All Souls Novena
‘Lord Jesus Christ, deliver the souls of all the faithful departed’
As we anticipate All Saints and All Souls days at the beginning of November, our thoughts turn to our deceased loved ones. We remember them for all the good that they did for us and all the benefits that we received from them. At the same time, we are asked to pray for all the dearly departed, that God will welcome them into eternal joy. We pray that “perpetual light will shine on them.”
You are invited to remember deceased loved ones and our deceased Josephites in prayer during the annual nine days Novena. Each year, as part of our ministry, Josephites lead “Nine Days of Prayer for the Departed,” from
October 24 – November 2.
Please send us the names of your deceased loved ones and special intentions you wish included in the Novena and Masses The Josephites will remember your loved ones during the Novena and the Masses we offer on All Souls Day, November 2. All Josephite seminarians, novices, priests and brothers will join our prayers with yours.
During the liturgical feasts of All Saints and All Souls, we can storm the gates of heaven with our prayers on behalf of our dearly departed. Our church teaches that those who have died in the love of God can have their souls purged of the punishment due to their sins, “by the suffrages of the faithful in this life, that is, by Masses, prayers, and almsgiving, and by the other offices of piety usually performed by the faithful.”
As we remember our departed loved ones, we can take comfort that there is something we can do. We can cherish their memories and ask God to shower his mercy on them. This year, please join the Josephites who pray with confidence, “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. May perpetual light shine upon them.”

EVERY DAY of the NOVENA

Sacred Heart of Jesus Novena of Reparation for the Offenses Against Life
Saint Joseph is our protector. Ever since the Holy Family fled into Egypt, when the Holy Innocents were being slaughtered, people of faith have “gone to Joseph” for consolation and protection. Today, we need his guidance as much as ever.
There are many attacks on life that are going on today. Abortion, euthanasia, immoral stem cell research, to name a few, are everyday occurrences. However, because of Jesus’ victory over sin and death, we know how the battle for the Culture of Life will end. We will be victorious. And, we know that the God of love will be merciful when it comes time for judgment on what we have done and what we have failed to do to stand up for Life in our times.
The Josephites lead an annual “Sacred Heart of Jesus Novena of Reparation for the Offenses Against Life.” You are invited to join us in this special novena. The Novena begins on June 11, the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The Josephites lead this novena with special confidence because a devotion to the Sacred Heart is part of our name: Saint Joseph’s Society of the Sacred Heart has been ministering in the United States for more than 140 years. Please join us in this unique mission of evangelization.
Join us in this special Novena for Life. With your help, the Culture of Life, especially in the African American community, will be advanced.

Act of Reparation
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I offer you an act of reparation for the indifference often shown to you. Not only do I now ask your pardon, but I also declare my readiness to atone both for my personal offenses and for the faults of others.
I am resolved to expiate every outrage committed against you. In reparation, I wish to make amends too for the injustices perpetrated against the poor, the vulnerable and the unprotected.
In union with the faithful on earth, I promise to make recompense, as far as I can, for all neglect of your great love and for the sins I and others have committed.
Loving Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, deign to receive my act of reparation and keep me faithful to you, so that I may one day come to that home where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Petition to the Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart of Jesus, do not forget our earthly sorrows. Look upon those of us who suffer, who struggle against difficulties, who are discouraged. Have pity on the lonely-hearted and on those of us who have been parted from loved ones. Obtain help for all who are in need and have compassion on us and everyone dear to us. Comfort all who mourn, who tremble, who worry, and grant us hope and peace. Amen.
Feast of St. Joseph the Worker

On May 1, we celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker.
St. Joseph the Worker can provide comfort, guidance and support.
If you have family, friends or neighbors that are struggling, you can ask St. Joseph to intercede for them.
Send your intercessions and Mass intentions for the Feast of St. Joseph. The Josephites will remember them in prayer on the Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker. Together we will ask St. Joseph to help us in this time of need.
For us, St. Joseph, protector of the Holy Family and mentor to the child Jesus, is an inspiration. St. Joseph shows us the value of hard work and the importance of sharing skills with others, as he did when Jesus served as his apprentice.
Every day in our inner cities and rural areas, Josephites lead, teach and empower others in places where the need has been the greatest. Often the parishes that Josephites serve cannot afford to financially support a priest or brother. Will you help The Josephites continue to provide sacramental ministry, pastoral care and personal witness?
May good Saint Joseph intercede for you and for all of your special intentions. You can be assured that we Josephites will be petitioning our patron saint on your behalf, too.
PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER
St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus, chaste spouse of Mary, you spent your life in the perfect accomplishment of duty, maintaining with the work of your hands the Holy Family of Nazareth, grant your kind protection to those who turn to you now.
Novena to St. Joseph
Glorious St. Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, to you do we come to ask your powerful intercession in obtaining from the merciful Heart of Jesus all the helps and graces that we need for our spiritual and temporal welfare, and in particular the grace of a happy death and the special favor we now implore (Mention it).
Guardian of the Word Incarnate, we know with confidence that your prayers on our behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God and that God will grant us whatever is for His greater glory and for our greatest good.
V. Glorious St. Joseph through your love of Jesus Christ and for the glory of His name, R. Hear our prayers and ask God to grant our petitions.
Let us Pray:
Glorious St. Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, obtain for us pure, humble, and charitable hearts and perfect conformity to the will of God. Be our guide, father and model through life so that we may merit to die as you did in the arms of Jesus and Mary.
Dear St. Joseph, foster father of our Lord Jesus Christ, true spouse of the Virgin Mother of God, pray for us.
Daily Prayer to St. Joseph
My beloved St. Joseph, adopt me as your child. Take charge of my salvation. Watch over me night and day. Preserve me from occasions of sin. Obtain for me purity of body and soul and the spirit of true prayer. Win for me a spirit of sacrifice, humility, and self-denial. Obtain for me a burning love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and tender love for Mary, my Mother. St. Joseph, be with me in life; be with me in death and obtain for me a favorable judgment from Jesus. Amen.
Memorare
Remember – O most pure spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, my protector, St. Joseph – that no one ever turned to you for your protection, implored your help, or sought mediation without obtaining relief. Confiding, therefore, in your goodness, I come into your presence and fervently recommend myself to your care and protection. Most loving foster-father of my Redeemer, hear the petition of your humble client. Amen.
Petition to St. Joseph
In faithful imitation of Jesus and Mary, I place myself and all my concerns under your care and protection, St. Joseph. Instruct me in every doubt, comfort me in each affliction, and defend and protect me in time of danger. Watch over me at all times, but especially at that last hour of my life on earth so that with you I may praise the Adorable Trinity forever. Amen.
Two Prayers for Workers
O God, the creator of all things, who formed the law of labor for the human race, graciously grant that by merits and patronage of St. Joseph, we may do the work You assign us and earn the reward You promise. Through our Lord, Jesus.
Lord God, You have created all things, and imposed on man the necessity of work. Grant that, following Joseph’s example, and under his protection, we may accomplish the works You give us and obtain the rewards You promise. This we ask through our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Prayer for Protection
St. Joseph, you are the faithful protector of and intercessor for all who love and venerate you. I have special confidence in you, for you are all-powerful with God and will never abandon your faithful servants. I humbly invoke you and commend myself with all who are dear to me to your protection and intercession. Do not abandon me or them during life, and assist me and them when we die. Amen.
Prayer for a Happy Death
Blessed Joseph, you yielded your last breath in the embrace of Jesus and Mary. When death closes my career, come, Holy Father, with Jesus and Mary, to aid me, and obtain for me the only solace which I ask at that hour-to die encircled by their holy arms. Living and dying, I commend my soul into your sacred hands, O Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Amen.

Thirty Days Prayer to Saint Joseph
St. Joseph is always there when we need help! We know that’s true. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, was chosen by God to be the protector of the Holy Family. He is our protector, too.
For centuries, Christians have known they can confide in Joseph, like a father, and call on him for support in times of trouble.
We Josephites have a special devotion to St. Joseph. He is our patron. St. Joseph has been our beacon for more than 125 years of ministry in the African-American community here in the United States. With your assistance and support, Josephites serve in parishes, schools and special ministries in the African-American areas of our country every day.
The Feast of St. Joseph, March 19, is special celebration for Josephites. It is our sacred custom to prepare for this feast by invoking St. Joseph for 30 days for our special intentions and those of our friends and benefactors.
Why 30 days? These 30 days of prayer honor the 30 years Joseph spent with Jesus and Mary on earth. It is in the 30-day prayer that we petition St. Joseph, by his sufferings, sorrows and joys, to hear our requests and carry them to God’s throne on high.
Join your petitions with ours and your prayers with all Josephites as we prepare for the St. Joseph feast day. Visit www.josephites.org. There, you can enroll in the Thirty Days of Prayer. It’s that simple.
Whatever sacrifice you wish to make to support the ministries of the Josephite priests and brothers will be used to support our 15 young men in formation, our retired, sick and infirm Josephites and those of us who serve in places which cannot afford to financially support a priest or brother.
As part of St. Joseph’s family here on earth, Josephites ask him every day to “obtain for all those who have asked our prayers everything that is useful to them in the plan of God.” We look forward to having you join us in these 30 days of prayer.
