Holy Family church was one of 27 African-American sites in Natchez, Miss., that were recognized with its own historical marker.
Kicking off Black History Month, Mayor Dan Gibson thanked the participants at an event held Feb. 1 at the Natchez Museum of African American History and Culture.
The markers, said the museum’s Executive Director, Bobby Dennis, will allow visitors to have a self-guided tour of local African American history.
Mayor Gibson said, “The markers will play a vital role in telling the complete history of the city.”
At the end of the celebration, the mayor thanked Father Anthony Okwum, SSJ, for his leadership at Holy Family church.
